Two versions of the timeless story of
Romeo and Juliet are intertwined to create a moving and intimate look at the legend of the world’s most famous star-crossed lovers. Scenes from Vincenzo Bellini’s bel canto masterpiece
I Capuleti e i Montecchi combined with highlights from William Shakespeare’s epic play will be presented in the candlelit chapel of Grace House. The performance features mezzo-soprano Hayden Dewitt (one of our cantors and a member of the Ascension Choir) in the trouser role of Romeo, and organist and music director and actor Preston Smith takes on the parts of Friar Laurence and the Apothecary. The production is staged and beautifully costumed in Elizabethan style, according to the performance practice in Shakespeare’s day.
