The Ascension-Holy Trinity Shelter welcomed its first guests on December 19, 2015.        We continue to run the shelter every Saturday and Sunday night, offering a hot meal,         a warm bed, and friendly conversation for up to twenty men.

We are currently seeking volunteers to stay the night and supervise. Training will be provided -- you will stay with another experienced volunteer, and have lots of help and support. Please consider becoming a “sleeper” -  helping overnight through breakfast.

On October 18, 2015, Fr. Kearney announced the Ascension Homeless Shelter Ministry
 
For this ministry, we need three sets of volunteers:

1. “sleepers”·        
   • The sleepers (2) would spend the night on fold up beds as a kind of chaperones.  Since the men are so well screened, there is rarely, if ever, a problem.  The “sleepers” are also responsible for putting the cots away, cleaning the kitchen, bathrooms, and taking out the garbage.  They serve breakfast to the men -- as simple or as elaborate as they wish. 
2. “cooks"
   • Those who cook would provide a hot evening meal for the men.  Very often this is done as a family effort.  A particular family (or group) from the parish would come in to serve dinner to the men.  The family would typically eat with the men as well. 
3. “set-up and clean-up” 
   • The third group of volunteers is for clean-up and set-up. They would set up the beds, etc.

• Los durmientes (2) pasarian la noche en catres como chaperones. Como los hombres han pasado por un proceso de investigacion, no hay mucho problemas. Los durmientes/chaperones estaran a cargo de guarder los catres, limpiar la cocina, los baños y sacar la basura. Tambien le serviran los desayunos a los hombres—tan sencillo o elaborado como deseen.

• Aquellos que sepan cocinar les proveerian una comida caliente a los hombres. Casi siempre esto se hace como un esfuerzo familiar. Una familia en particular (o un grupo) de la parroquia vendria a servirles la comida a los hombres. La familia, tipicamente, tambien comeria con los hombres.

• El tercer grupo de voluntarios seria para limpieza y poner todo en orden. Ellos serian las personas que sacarian los catres, etc. Todo debe estar listo a las 6:30pm. Esto tambien puede ser hecho por una familia o un grupo.

If you do not have time or cannot assist in the shelter personally, please consider a monetary donation. We will use these funds to purchase needed supplies, food, etc. Donations will be collected in the rectory. Checks should be made payable to Ascension Church and write “Homeless Shelter” in the note.
