Mission Statement
We believe the purpose of catechesis in our parish is to bring people
together to grow in their faith and love of God, to actively participate in
the sacramental and liturgical life of the church, to accompany each
other on the journey to know Jesus better, and to provide strength
and support to live our purpose as missionary disciples with a focus
on serving those most in need in our community.
For adults (ages 18 and over) we offer OCIA (Order of Christian
Initiation for Adults) and Confirmation preparation for Adults.
For teens preparing for Confirmation: Our Sunday afternoon
Confirmation preparation program is a liturgically focused,
contemporary curriculum designed to prepare the student for a
lifelong love of the faith.
For younger children (ages 3-5) we offer CGS (Catechist of the
Good Shepherd), a hands-on, Montessori-based approach to
children's faith formation.
For children ages 5-17 we collaborate with Holy Name/St. Gregory’s
parish (207 West 96th Street on Amsterdam Avenue) where we offer
a dynamic, time-tested model of evangelizing and catechizing the
entire family: a family retreat model. Once every two months the
families come together for a day-long experience of learning, prayer,
and community. Throughout the month the catechetical journey
continues in the homes and in smaller groups, with Sunday mass
participation (at Ascension), reflection and prayer opportunities and
opportunities to give witness to serve the needs of the community.
Registrations will be opening soon!
