It is an altar server’s honor to serve God by leading the people as the community gathers to raise our voices in prayer at Mass, the most important prayer in Catholic tradition. Altar servers are uniquely privileged to kneel at the foot of the altar as Christ becomes present in the bread and wine; the Body and Blood of Christ. The altar servers at Ascension Church have a history of excellent service to the parish.

• It is an altar server’s responsibility to lead the parish people in prayer at Mass by setting the example through active participation in the liturgy in their actions, responses, and singing of hymns during the liturgy.
• Altar servers assist in not only Mass itself, but also in its preparation prior to the start of the liturgy.
• Altar servers can begin their ministry at any point from as young as the 5th grade (provided they have received the sacrament of the Eucharist) and can continue on in the ministry for as long as they desire, well into adulthood.
